If you’re anything like me, you love Colourpop. Not only is it an affordable brand, but it’s good quality as well. As a makeup junkie that is on a college budget, I am always on the lookout for affordable beauty products. Over the past few years, I have gotten the chance to really try out the Colourpop brand including, but not limited to, their lippies, highlighters, and eyeshadows. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten the chance to try out their pressed products, blushes, bronzers, or brow powders but I have heard all good things.
When I got the email from Colourpop announcing their collaboration with My Little Pony, I squealed. When I was little, I adored My Little Pony. I had so many ponies lying everywhere and had little houses and play sets. That, Polly Pocket, and Bratz were all that I played with.
Now, onto the collection. I gotta say, this is one of their cuter collections. I died when I saw the packaging – and I am a sucker for packaging. This beauty collection consists of a pressed powder shadow palette, two different kits (the PR collection and a standard collection), a brush set, a makeup bag, three super shock shadows, three ultra matte lips, three ultra glossy lips, and two pressed powder highlighters.
Now, let’s break down this collection!
My Little Pony Palette
This pressed powder palette consists of 12 shades, all named after My Little Pony characters. This palette is quite colorful and has a good combination of mattes and shimmers. Colourpop states that this palette contains ultra-velvety shadows that have a long-wear formula that has high pigment and blends easily on the eye.
Colourpop recommends applying these shadows with a firm/dense shadow brush to pack on the pigment. Afterwards, use a fluffy brush to blend out the shadows.
The shadows in this palette are somewhat small, in regards to their net weight. Each shadow is 0.03 oz. These shadows are cruelty and paraben free. Yay! It’s important to use cruelty free products when you can. Testing on animals is terrible and they deserve better. Additionally, looking for products that are paraben free are just as important. Parabens are commonly used to increase the longevity of a product but, they can cause harmful effects to your skin – especially if you have sensitive skin.
This palette retails for $16.00 (about $1.33 per shadow), which is an excellent price. Personally, I would like to purchase this palette. If I do, I’ll do an update with a review. You can purchase the My Little Pony Palette here!
My Little Pony Kits
This collection has two different kids: a PR kit and a full, standard kit. Both kits contain the full 12-piece collection, plus or minus a few collectible items that are only available through the kits.
The PR Collection
If you want to feel like a beauty guru that receives PR from Colourpop, now is your chance! The Colourpop PR kit contains all 12 collection items plus an exclusive PR tote bag and sticker sheet. This collection is for purchase for $135.00 but has a $158.00 value! That is a saving of $23.00, which is pretty good if you want the whole collection and then some.
The Standard Collection
The standard collection is slightly different than the PR collection. The standard collection does not come with the tote bag, but still has the entire 12-piece collection along with the sticker sheet. If you don’t care about having a tote bag, then I would go for the standard collection. Personally, this tote bag would get shoved in the back of my closet so I would purchase the standard collection instead of the PR collection. This collection is for purchase for $110.00 but has a $123.00 value! This is a saving of $13.00, which I think is fair what what you are getting. You save more, monetary-wise, when you buy the PR kit, but you are also paying for the tote bag.
My Little Pony Brush Set
Yay, another Colourpop brush set! I’ve heard good things about Colourpop’s brushes, but have not tried them myself. As a beauty junkie, I find myself wanting to buy brushes all the time – they all do different things no matter how similar they look, I swear!
The brush set contains 5 mini brushes and a translucent brush case for travel. The brushes included are: angled face brush, fan brush, shader brush, tapered blending brush, and an angled eye brush. One downside about these brushes are that they are mini’s and not full sized. Additionally, I am not the biggest fan of the bright pink color but that’s just personal preference.
If we break down the price, per brush, each brush is about $4.00. The total cost of the brush set is $22.00. Considering these are mini-brushes, this price is alright. I have brushes from AOA Studio which are only $1.00 and are pretty good quality, considering the price. I think I will just continue to purchase AOA Studio brushes, and pass on the mini-brush set.
My Little Pony Makeup Bag
I love makeup bags because they can be used for so many things – I use them to hold all my beauty products including makeup and skin care. I am also a huge sucker for cute makeup bags, and this one is no exception. The bag has a lavender metallic finish with a cute embroidered rainbow on the front. Very My Little Pony style. You can look at it more in detail here!
The bag itself is quite large, as it can fit the entire 12-piece collection in it. This is exciting because it’s hard now-a-day to find a bag large enough to hold enough products. Specifically, the dimensions are: 9in X 5.5in. The bag is $18.00, which I find is kinda pricey for a makeup bag. I don’t think that I would ever purchase a makeup bag for $18.00, but that might be because I am a cheap college student haha.
My Little Pony Super Shock Shadows
Within this collection, there are three super shock shadows each retailed at $5.00. The three shadows all contain glitter and are formulated with Colourpop’s signature cream-to-power finish: Cherries Jubilee (opalescent pink with hot pink glitter), Sunbeam (pastel lavender drenched in violet with hot pink and ice blue glitter), and Posey (soft pinky beige with silver, gold, and pink glitter).
These shadows are so popular, they are all currently out of stock. Wow! I can understand why – all of these shadows are beautiful and look so fun to play with. Each super shock shadow is also 2.1 oz, which is a large amount of shadow for only $5.00.
The best way to apply these shadows are with your finger or a dense synthetic brush (for the most pigment), or using a fluffy blending brush to diffuse the shadow and give it a softer look. These shadows are cruelty free, paraben free, and vegan!
My Little Pony Ultra Matte Lip
As the super shock shadow, there are also three ultra matte lips! I am a fan of the Colourpop ultra matte lip formula. It doesn’t dry my lips out too much and is comfortable on the lips. This is coming from a person with super dry lips. There are two bold lippies and one neutral colored ultra matte lip. The ultra matte lips retail for $6.00 – an amazing price for a quality liquid lipstick.
The first ultra matte lip is called Lemon Drop. Lemon Drop is described as a bright, cool-toned lavender. This would look so nice if your skin tone and cool tones work together. Personally, my skin tone and cool tone lippies are not the best of friends. Next is Pin Wheel, a vibrant cool-toned fuchsia. This lippie is such a bright color and creates a bold statement on the lips. Lastly, we have Moondancer, described as a blackened plum color. This is the most wearable shade out of the ultra matte lips in the collection, and my personal favorite. Although my beauty collection already has a ton of neutral shades, I don’t mind adding one more 😉
My Little Pony Ultra Glossy Lip
I’ve never tried the ultra glossy lip from Colourpop, but after seeing these shades, I really want to try. I’ve never been a gloss person so I’ve always strayed away from those products. Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about glosses going around the beauty community, so I’ve been tempted to try one.
The My Little Pony collection came out with three glosses: Flutter Valley (golden undertone with tons of hot pink and gold glitter), Ponyland (lilac slightly sprinkled with pink and gold glitter), and Dream Castle (metallic fuchsia with blue, violet, and gold glitter on top). These glosses claim to have a high-gloss shine with full coverage and retail for $6.00. You can check them out more here!
My Little Pony Pressed Powder Highlighter
I am obsessed with highlighters. Lately, I have been trying to collect and add more highlighters to my collection. My most recent addition was the KiloWatt highlighter from Fenty Beauty (ahh! so amazing). Now, I can buy quality highlighters at a cheaper price via Colourpop! I’ve had their super shock highlighters, but have not tried the pressed highlighter formula but I have high hopes.
Within the My Little Pony collection, they released two pressed powder highlighters: Starflower (a peachy gold) and Trickles (lavender with pink duochromo). These highlighters are 6.5 g (0.23 oz), which is a good amount of product for the $8.00 price point. Although these highlighters look super pretty, I don’t think that I will be purchasing any of them. The colors are not my style and I already know that they will not suit my skin tone.
So that is the entire Colourpop X My Little Pony Collection. After looking closely into the collection, I think I will be purchasing the eyeshadow palette and maybe a ultra glossy lip. I already have enough matte lippies, and none of the shades scream my name. I don’t think that I will get much use out of the super shock shadows, which is why I am passing on those as well. Additionally, I won’t be purchasing the highlighters as they are not my favorite shades. I also don’t feel the need to purchase new brushes or an $18.00 makeup bag.
What do you think of the collection and will you be purchasing any items? Let me know!
